two pipe steam system

I have a 100 year old boiler 2 pipe steam system. I am looking to replace the boiler and get the system working the way its supposed to. I live in the Boston area. I know that I really need someone who knows what they are doing. I've had the usual array of plumbers...the comments that I've received:

1. Sure,no problem
2. I would leave this thing alone
3. I would leave this thing alone (followed by explanation)
a. You won't save any money by replacing this
b. The new boilers are not designed for this. System uses too much water, the new boilers don't work with that kind of volume.

Any suggestions on someone who really loves this stuff and takes real pride in their work?

    advice

You CAN leave it alone BUT... If descaled it'll probably run forever. But its undoubtedly a coal boiler converted to gas or oil. Since the firebox is inappropriate for the current fuel, its very wasteful. A new boiler will use MUCH less fuel in this case.

The new boilers do have lower water content, but I've never really seen this as an issue. I new boiler will work very well.

If I had an ancient boiler that looked really cool, I'd take it out of service, clean its exterior and paint it, put it on a small platform and mood light it as a testement to its heroic service. But that's just me.
