TSP less theT

I have a customer that does not want me to use TSP to clean the pipes. I heard of a TSP pipe cleaner without the T and that it is used in ceratin area's on Long Island. Does anyone know of such a product?

    Without the \"T\"?

As in "sodium phosphate"? The proper chemical name for "Trisodium phosphate" is "Sodium Phosphate" and is labeled as such in chemistry labs (where for various reasons I spend a good deal of time). People just call it "Trisodium Phosphate" because, one, it just so happens to have three of the sodiums, and also, because it makes a spiffier acronym.

If you're thinking something like "monosodium phosphate", it would, well, be pretty weak in comparison. I'd imagine the product is not TSP-related at all but rather just some other cleaner.

    Look for

a product called MEX. It's available in most hardware stores. What you want is "phosphate-free."

It's the P, not the T, that has been dropped

The only TSP I could find when I painted my aunts apt in New Rochelle, NY a few years back was "phosphate free" TSP !

My brother in law, a pro painter, was along and we even went to a Sherwin Williams store to get the "good stuff" Sorry the guy said, no more TSP for you!

Phosphates are being watched and controlled a lot more these days. I'm not sure what the "P" was replaced with. The Red Devil brand we had was pretty wimpy stuff. Didn't even burn you hands like old TSP could:)
