adding a vent

have a strange problem with a steam radiator it heats very slowly today I repiped from the main to the radiator all new pipes eliminated 3 1 in 90 elbows installed 1 90 elbow and 2 45 els took over 30 minutes for steam to get to radiator which is 1,000 better then no steam I am thinking of drilling and taping to add another air vent to rad is this a good idea

    maybe. ..but

    if you disconnect the radiator from the supply valve,,how long does it take to get steam to the open pipe? also what kind of air vent did you use?

    There's another problem somewhere

    How long does it take between the time the boiler produces steam and the time the steam reaches the end of the main? How long between the time steam reaches the end of the main and the ime it reaches that radiator? How long is the runout you repiped and where does it connect to the main- near the boiler, in the middle or near the end?

    You don't need to drill and tap a new hole. Just try a Gorton D. But first try taking the vent off completely and see how long it takes to heat up. Also, did you replace the valve into the radiator as well (or at least confirm that it is not broken, clogged or otherwise constricted)?
