pressure more than 15

I have a old Weil-Mclain boiler with a pressure problem not all the time but usually I find the gauge reading 15. The house is set up with a digital thermostat in the living room as I'm troubleshooting and reading various books I'm thinking she needs a mercury thermostat. Why I came to that conclusion due to the digital is so accurate for cycling on the boiler, Am I Correct? The Pressurestol is cranked down to specific diff number.

well a few things to look at

is this a steam system or water? the digital thermostat should not affect the boiler, the boiler should not first of all even come close to 15 psi if it is steam. If it is water 15 psi is fine. on Steam it should be more like 1 to 2 psi for residence. The presure troll shall cut the boiler on and off for steam, not the thermostat, thermostat just tells the boiler to come on and stay till heat is happy, the pressure troll will cycle boiler on and off for more steam. also the gauge on the boilermight be not working properly. also the pressure relief valve is set to open at 15 psi. well hope this helps. but I do not think its the thermostat, maybe someone else has a different input

    Jose...

Digital thermostats are + or - 0ne degree. The old style merc stats were + or - 3 or 4 degrees so you often ended up with longer run times. As for 15 lb you must have a hot water system and 15 lb is fine. If it is steam 15 lb it way to high.

    good luck

Does your old boiler have an old pressure gauge? Over time they can wear out and become inaccurate. I've seen cases where a 30 psig gauge was pegged and the system was fine. If you're not sure, try replacing the gauge.

    Or

the piping that connects the gauge to the boiler could be plugged. I had one once where the gauge was stuck on 7 pounds. Got a gauge and took the old one off, it dropped to zero. Plugged pigtail was the cause. This can also cause a no-heat call if the pressuretrol is mounted on the same pigtail, by holding it open.
