Gorton #2 Location

It sure does heat faster, and much better! I also installed a Gorton C on a radiator that never got warm (and the room was previously useless in the winter) and it was perfect! After fumbling with other vents for months and then finally going with Gortons I can honestly state that this is the closest thing to magic that I've ever experienced. I can't explain it. How can their vents work so much better than others? Venting technology is not that complicated, is it?

    Gorton #2 Location

I've installed a Gorton #2 just before the end of a 50' main on a one pipe system, which I believe is the correct location but I'm not sure if it is installed correctly. There is a nipple (6" length) straight up from the main (not at an angle) and then a coupling then another nipple (2" length) then a union then a reducer coupling to go from 3/4" (size of the nipples) to 1/2" (size of the Gorton #2). So the Gorton #2 is now 8" above the main. Is this ok?

    Size Matters

Hoffman, Dole, Vent-Rite and others are all stuck in the coal era. Not that they don't make reliable units, but they don't make main vents big enough.

When boilers ran on coal, the fire burned all day, therefore once the air was out it stayed out- so what if it took an hour to get heat into the last radiator? Obviously this is no longer true with automatic firing.

It is essential to vent the air in the mains quickly, before it starts to rise into any of the radiators. Then all the rads have steam available at the same time, and can be vented with standard vents according to their size. That's what you did with your #2.

Watch your fuel consumption drop too!
