Circulators
Man with a question
Member Posts: 69
Who wants to weigh in on circulators?
I operate in a mild climate (aprox. 15btu/ft/hr) and have modest zone circulator needs. Often I can use a Taco 003 on small zones or a 006 on larger. I usually design a circulator for each zone.
I'm curious whether there are some strong opinions out there as to circulator preference. How about the Grundfos 15 series? B & G? Others I haven't evem met yet? By the way - I go bronze. Anxious to hear what you all have to say.
Thanks,
Happy Jake

Never had a problem with any of those brands
To me the proper circulator is the one that's sized right.
What kind of system are you using these little Tacos on?

I use the 003's on radiant zones with just 2 or three loops and flow rates of 1 to 1.5 GPM0 -
I have to agree
we use all three of those regularly depending on the design needs of the system. The old B&G little reds and little foxes were junk, but those have been out of the system for quite awhile now. I really like the three speeed grundfoss, cause of the flexability, but of course that all depends on the system0 -
Taco 00 series
Go Taco! Taco offers a 1 year warranty on the pump, and 3 years on the replaceable cartridge assembly. The mentioned cartridge is a complete rebuild kit most likely to fail, because it is exposed to the system water directly. Bronze pumps can be a little pricey, so having the option to replace the cartridge only is nice, especially when it's covered under the manufactures generous warranty. Thank you Johnny!!

Jeff I must be lucky my b.&g. red fox 12 years still runing great. c.d.0 -
Well out of the box
your already ahead of the field. learn more about pump ability and size accordingly. Most guys would have used a 007 and called it even.0 -
i like the sweat bronze also...especially as i dont have
anything smaller than003's available sure i can Make one taco has a bunch of variable speeds out now and that should help alot...the exp zvc has the 702 or 705 that could do the same and a few months back i tried to buy 10 of the Wilo havent heard a word one for whatever the reason...however i did get a 1/2 "differential bypass0 -
I with you Jeff
I am a huge Taco fan. I installed many of them and now sell them. Very rarely do we get them back. B&G red fox and big red are junk. Heatway used to package them with their radiant systems... eventually they all failed with in 5 yrs. Grundfos makes a fine pump now. Didn't they have problems a few years ago with failures? If I remember right they even gave you 2 pumps for every one defective one returned. I could be wrong.. but I think I remember something like that. I know today's grundfos is fine.

B&G
Does anyone know why B&G discontined their 4 speed circulators? I have had 2 of them in operation going on 15 years.0 -
That was the SLC-25
which I liked... still keep a couple around for when I need to experiment. The replacement NRF series is supposed to be "new and improved" whatever that means.....

NRF =
New Red Fox !
I think all circ manufactures had problems early to mid 90's during the radiant revolution. I think they all lossened tolerances, boosted torque, and some added wigglers! And upped warranties.
In all fairness I'd bet a lot of the SPS "stuck pump syndrome" was directly related to exceptionally bad water quality presented by ALL the early non barrier PB, pex, and rubber tube products. O2 ingress would sludge a system in a years time often. Plenty of fodder to "glue" a circ hopelessly "off"
hot rod
