I am having a hard time getting the concept of the anticipator setting on a thermostat and how to set it. Can anyone help?

anticipator setting
The only way to set the heat anticipator is to match the current draw of the control system. let me explain : Take the R and W wires off the thermostat or subbase. Jumper these two together completing the circuit for heat.At the same time measure the amp draw at this location and wait until the equipment is running in the heat mode.Set the anticipator to the measured current.Keep in mind your amp draw will be in tenths of an amp so you will need an ampmeter capable of measuring tenths or you can purchase a meter made just for this purpose. Another option is to coil a piece of wire ten times and attach aligator clips at both ends. Use this to complete the circuit between R and W, place the jaws of an ammeter between all ten coils and divide the reading by ten. for instance if you read six amps your settng would be .6 .0 -
What does it do? Is this the same as swing?0 -
Yeah, get a new thermostat that doesn't have an anticpator to set...
Seriously, I just went through all kinds of problems with the anticipators on some HW t87's. I ended up replacing them with HW CT500s and there's no longer an issue.0 -

Seriously
Different thermostats use different anticipation methods. Just trying to help with the one you may have in mind.0 -
Anticipator
If you are setting the anticipator on a HW boiler, There is no anticipation. So the setting should be maxed. (1.2 or so.0
