Quick Trac and sensors?

I have two ?'s regarding sensors with QT. Is there any snowmelt sensors thin enough to use on a roof snomelt job. That's right roof. as in flat as in... o.k. slightly pitched. It will get snow from the falling and the shedding of another roof so it could get deep and heavy. I don't want to penetrate the roof membrane if possible. The normal Tekmar sensor is 3"+ hi and fear an ice rink on the roof.

The other ? is in a bathroom(s) floor warming issue. I'll be using motorized three way with reset so no t stats needed, but just in case what is the best way to set up a future set point contol system? Floor covering to thin to bury no good place to hide except under the lav cabinet(in the kickspace). Thoughts?

    sensors

Thinking that no stat is needed in the bathroom on a radiant job has kept me busy over the past few years trying to find a way to put one in after the fact. Most installers don't bother with it (at least they're learning).
We ALWAYS put the bath on a separate zone, especially with tile. That floor gets really cold when a stat somewhere else gets satisfied. Unless you're using constant circulation, you should use a stat and sensor in a bath. It can be put anywhere in the floor. For new construction with QuikTrac, just put a short piece of QT at the base of the wall directly below the stat and set the sensor in the groove. Some thin set will hold it. If existing, and you can get at the floor from below, you can CAREFULLY locate the tuning and drill a hole (holesaw) up to the reflective plate and set the sensor that way. If not, as you mentioned, under the toe, or under the tub or lift a tile and have a new one installed.
Have no idea about roof sensor, sorry.

    Steve,

If you are looking at the 090/091 tekmar moisture/temp sensor.. do you have the 662 or 667? Using other controls instead? Looking for a simple switch?

all choices are open, except one, it must be automatic.

I just am looking at a fax about gutter ice melt but not to happy about the limited contol feature(s).

    Thanks

If you want to keep it simple and lower priced (LIST priced at $495), consider the LCD-1H available from Watts Radiant (http://www.wattsradiant.com/lit/PDF/brochure/Snowmelting.pdf).

You mount this switch on a 3/4 piece of conduit. It is 24 volt and has an isolated end switch to turn on your system and will keep the system on for 5 hours past the heated sensor becoming dry. It is made by ETI. Here is the direct spec sheet on it:

I have used this switch successfully for over 10 years without any failures. I did have one that was in place so long a pine tree gree over it!
