Because of their usage (minimal) could a high quality ball valve be used in place of a Gate?

    Not a good idea to install a ball valve where it will be infrequently opened or closed, especially when used in a high temperature application (steam). The teflon seals will "creep" over time and deform to the minute imperfections on the ball and body. The valve will become very difficult if not impossible to open or close.
