spitting radiators

Does anyone know what would make my single pipe steam radiator suddenly spit wet steam and water out of the supply valve area when it had been working fine for the last 2 weeks?
Thanks, I am a new homeowner and need to figure this out asap!

Supply area?
If it is from the supply end I would check to make sure the valve is in the full open position. Then if the union near the valve is tight and the leak is not at the packing nut. Check that the leak isn't from the other end, at the vent. If none of the above perhaps it decided to crack somewhere and you have an epoxy job coming.0 -
mine started spitting
shortly after I moved in. It appeared to work fine for a while, but then failed dramatically (brown stuff all over the walls). It turned out that the radiator didn't sit flat on the floor and was somewhat precariously positioned, so that when it got bumped (we had moved some furniture), it lost its small pitch, cause water to collect on the vent side. A few wood shims (or checkers, if you prefer) fixed that problem. There was also a lot of junk in the vent, so we cleaned that out (and eventually just replaced it with a higher-quality vent).
