says that a job will be ready for you and you have your crew there to start...only to show up and have little ready...and have little time to turn around and go elsewhere. What do you do/say?...especially when this happens more often than it should? kpc

    Kevin

When I was in business I drove by the future jobsites on my way home or on the week end and checked them for readiness myself, first hand. You could check with the other subs, like the electrician or something.

This GC should pay you for your time but we all know that will never happen. Are your men good carpenters? Maybe he could pay them to help his guys. Are these jobs far from the shop? It sucks driving 30 minutes or more to get there and then not being able to work.

    not in your shoes

I for one am glad I don't have to deal with that. But if you have a contract couldn't you put in the contract a cost for delay? If they call you and want you there on a set day and you go for nothing......They pay..Their mistake their money out the door...JMHO

    Check First

You have to do your own job checking Kevin. Someone in your company needs to be able to do this. There are few GC's that know how to coordinate a job properly. You will experience lots of false starts if you don't run your own business. It's a cost of doing business either way, but when you are covered up anyway, it is a cost you don't need.

    THat would work

in a perfect world. Just try to get the GC to cough up the funds will be more aggravation than doing your own drive by. Cover yer butt and record the situation because if you are a day late on the other end .... the GC will use you as a scape goat for sure..

    Pre Inspection Fee

We charge a "Pre-Inspection" fee of $99.00 for any site where other trades are working. We then check out the site when they say it is ready, and if it is ready, we deduct the fee, If it is not, we note the paperwork, have the G.C. Sign the reasonable delay note and reschedule another inspection. We happen to work with a lot of the same G.C.s so they get happy when we show up, inspect and shedule the job and sometimes, if the job is big enough, we give the G.C. the 99.00 as an incentive
