Hammering

in THE MAIN WALL
Heating system: Single pipe, steam gas. The piping is really old while the boiler brand new and piped per manufacturer.

Problem: Hammering at the begging of the heating cycle and some air vent hissing

Temporary solution: Drain and refill the boiler. That helps for 1 or 2 days then the hammering and hissing start again

My theory: No “dry” steam since the water is getting dirty after it runs thru the system once or twice.

Remedies: Here is where I need your help. I guess that if I clean the system thoroughly, if that’s possible, it should help. I am not sure though how to do this, what types of additives should I use (if any), how many flush cycles I should do, etc...

Disclaimer: I have brought in 2 “experts” who end up being more kitchen/bath plumbers than steam experts. So I am desperate.

    please go to find a professional at the top right side of this page and locate a steam expert near you did the installers follow the manufacturs install directions? can you post some pictures of the boiler and near boiler piping
