Some more REMS Curvo work

Ultra/ Viessmann package. Now if I only had a ProPress :) I'd be solder free, needing only a couple press couplings to build these.

Sounds like REMS is bringing in some light weight, less expensive press tools. Supposed to shear all thread, crimp pex, copper press, etc.

    Great work once again.....

    Nice craftsmanship Hotrod!

I have noticed a wide variety of boilers that you use. They span manufacturer and category. Munchkin, Lochinvar, Weil-McLain.

Do you have customers requesting specific equipment, or is it availability issues with you vendors? Is your choice of boiler based on $$$$, reliability, or stocked boilers and parts in your region? (Combination of all of the above?)

Regardless, whatever equipment you use, it is very well done. Perhaps you should have your own REMS Curvo table at the upcoming Wetstock. See ya'there.

    Regards,

    PR

    I'm still searching

for that "perfect 10" boiler, heat sourse, whatever you want to call 'em.

About the only locally stocked boiler is the Burnham cast iron. A small selection and only standing pilot!

Actually Burnham or Crown Cabo (sealed combustion) is my favorite "long distance" boiler. Any job more than 45 minutes from my shop gets a good old, solid, dependable, fixable, recognizable, cast iron.

In the high efficiency range I have a few MZ's, never a problem. 4 Munchkins, a sometimes "needy" boiler, they code out F09 and F10 to often, IMO, and 4 Ultras. So far, with only one season on them, the Ultras have been very dependable.

The support at HTP would be the only selling feature for my future purchases. I, or the homeowners, have never been left in the cold once you get tech support on the phone :)They need to make the Munchkin more expensive LOOKING, get some better cases. And make the most often tinkered with component (the gas valve) at little easier to service :) Maybe it's the LP quality in my area, but i find the gas valves need re adjusting now and again? Guess time will tell on the stainless de-alloying! If that in fact that can, or is, happening?

Thats some nice copper work hot rod. I love the look of bent copper versus fittings. How long did it take you to get that good at knowing just what angle you need? I can still barely bend 1/2 emt lol. I have always wondered that when you bend copper does the outside radius wall thickness of the pipe become thinner? Do you use type M copper for this pipe work or another grade? Once again nice work.

    In air conditioning,

We've been using the REMS banders for about 6 years. We always use "soft" "L" (ACR, cleaned and capped on the roll...) with it, and have had ZERO failures in any of the bends. I imagine that it does reduce the wall thickness a tad when bent into a full 90, but it's definitely not noticeable with "L". I've never tried "M", mainly because I don't have access to rolled "M". It would work with "K", also, just probably a bit more effort.

I will say this about the REMS benders, go slow and steady while making the bends, or you might wind up with a "corrugated" 90...

It makes a beautiful job, as Hot Rod has shown.

I use regular L ,stick copper

It will usually bend type M if you WD-40 the jigs.

This tool easily bends 1-1/4" K, in fact that is type K in the pic for the cold water feed line to the Vitocell.

I suppose it does thin the outer radius some. Considering the flow velocity in hydronics and with that long sweep bend, I don't for see any wall thickness wear problems.

I imagine the ProPress fittings are formed the same way, maybe even regular solder type fittings?

I don't always hit right on the money with the bends, I have a REMS expander to cheat out a mis calc :)

This piping took about 30 minutes and replaces 6- ells and 1- 45°

    REMS Curvo

Nice work Hot Rod, we bend a lot of copper here in the UK with hand benders and we also have a REMS Curvo. But alas, I found our Curvo in the bowel of our store, when I asked our guys why? 'D' bends, and yes after I tried it myself that's the result I got. But I will try your WD40 trick or get a coulpe of the plastic guides.
    Thanks for reading.

    Rap on jimmy...

it now only makes" Uies?"that sounds like maybe something in the trigger ....not allowing it to variable glide out of power....i am interested in how you solve for it and what you think may be the reason for the anomaly...

    WD40

Another use for WD40 here in the UK, is Pub and Nightclub owners spray all surfaces in their toilets with the stuff, that has the bad effect on any 'substances' being 'snorted' from countertops.
Oh well, it's pipe bending or mind bending!

Is the drug problems that we have the price we pay for our rich developed society? Very sad.
    Thanks for reading.

    Bending steel

Anyone try bending steel with that thing? I would like to make some oil lines for my car; they are about 1 inch diam. or 26mm o.d. Is the radius limited to what's shown in the pics or could one get tighter? The Rems cutting oil in the spray cans is an excellent product, by the way.

    I have bent schd 40

black gasline with it, 1/2". The main thing is that the guides fit the tube diameter closely. It will only bend the diameter of the guides that come with it, the diameter, or radius is not adjustable any closer than the fixture allows.

I have used that REMS oil, I think it is approved fior domestic water lines oil. Maybe mineral oil or something? Funny smell!

Mineral oil has no odor, taste or color. May be some fish oil like cod liver--food safe and inexpensive.

    Their lit. states

That it is a high alloyed mineral based oil, that can be washedd out with water. " Approved by experts " :) whos that ?

We use it all the time and like it alot. We use the spray can and its much neater and I have to believe it waste less.

    Measuring bends

I've watched my electrician buddies bending conduit in multiple directions and having it fit nearly exactly into the boxes that are already mounted. They learn that stuff in apprenticeship school. The makeup distances are marked on some benders for different angles. I gotta get one of those things just for the pure fun of it!

    Tube Bending Instructions

Here's a couple of scans out of "IPT's Pipe Trades Handbook" by Robert A. Lee. The instructions were always long gone for every tube bender I ever came across, but these few pages cover it. Awesome little book, by the way.
