noisy pipes

I have a gas baseboard hotwater heating system. Lately the pipes make an occasional loud "banging" sound under the livingroom floor. How can I remedy this? I was told it might be airbound.

banging pipes
System being air bound is the first place to look. If you don't have the knowledge don't try this yourself. It's best left to a pro. That water is very hot and it isn't worth getting hurt over. Call in a service tech to help you out.

might be expansion
Well the fact of being air bound is possible, but I wouldt imagine it being a banging sound on fin tube. I have seen where the pipes were banging because they were expanding from heating up and they are toucking a wall, or ceiling and that bangs as well, I have seen this on systems with steel pipes where the pipes penetrate walls. see if you can find where they penetrate walls or touch the ceiling, make sure the hangers are tight and that there are enough of them0 -
Possibly
Your aquastat may be set too high or out of calibration. if 212 degree water hits an air pocket... it will flash steam and bang. Just a thought.
