My Mandy Girl - Alan R. Mercurio

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent; her eager body quivers. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I'd appreciate your prayers for Toni and I to have the strength to come through this difficult time. Thank you.

    Tribute to our Mandy Girl

What seems like just yesterday was over 12 years ago. Toni’s Great Grandmother had past away. I received a call from her son who informed me of Arleen’s passing. He went on to tell me that it was his mothers wish that when she passed Mandy would be given to Toni and I. Knowing how special Mandy was to Great Grammy I considered this a privilege and accepted the responsibility.

Mandy has been with us ever since. Many of you may remember that about 2 years ago Mandy became very ill and we thought we were going to loose her. We learned Mandy had gotten diabetes and things were not looking very promising. Thanks to the many prayers from many of you and others, Mandy came around. although now she would require daily insolent shots. We were very happy to know the good Lord blessed us with Mandy for a few more years. She had her good days and bad but overall she was the same O’l Mandy Girl. In fact this started something new in our lives. When I could not make arrangements for someone to be available to administer Mandy’s shot while I was away doing a seminar/workshop. I would simply find a hotel that allowed pets and Mandy Girl would travel with me. She has been to Connecticut, New York, Virginia and even as far south as North Carolina!

Sadly this past couple weeks Mandy has taken a turn for the worse she has become very ill and has been in pain. It was hard for me to realize that I was keeping her alive because I did not want to let her go. After praying over this I made the very difficult decision to relieve Mandy of her pain and let her go, so she can be with Arleen once again. I pray that I’ll see them both again when the Lord brings me home.

Today I made the trip to Pennsylvania because I wanted Mandy’s regular vet to perform the procedure of putting her to sleep and also because I had always made a promise to myself and Arleen (after she passed) that when Mandy passed on I would have her cremated so I could save a small amount of her for myself and spread the rest of her around Great Grammy’s grave.

Mandy Girl, I love you and I’ll miss you though my faith in the Lord gives me joy knowing you’ll be with Great Grammy again.

Well said, my friend. Pets are like people and become family members without even asking. We take them in, nurture them, and watch them grow just like our children. I've lost several pets over my lifetime and it is always painful, even losing little creatures like hamsters and turtles.

My thoughts go out to you and Toni.

    Alan,

Feel good. You did what you had to do, and in a most compasionate manner.

I too had to do the same, a couple years ago, and it wasn't at all fun. My Thomas was with me for almost 18 years. He lived through the hard times and the good...but his not being able to eat and stand up by himself made me "have to make the BIG decision".

That SUCKED! But at the same time...you stopped a family member from any further suffering. Feel good knowing that you made the right decsion. To make anyone suffer is worthless. Mandy is home..all is good.Godspeed Mandy. You had great homes for all your years. Chris

    Thank you Jeff,
That was beautiful bro. And by the way, the last thing I did was to “caress her beloved head” Bless you my friend.
