for the most part we say no . However I've had customers want to yank out thier old furnasties for us or remove all the floor insulation for a staple up job in which case i say "Go for it" Had 1 guy want to do his own staple up in a very nasty crawl space and then have us replace the boiler. "Sure no problem knock yourself out"

    DYR

I get a call from someone who is installing their own Radiant Baseboard. They also have the boiler. They just need someone to hook up the boiler, gas piping and venting.

I say, O.K., in order for me to help you, as I work with many DYRs, did you have a room by room heatloss done? I'll need to make sure that the radiant baseboard will heat the home sufficiently.

The response was, "we did that already, we just need someone to hook it up".

Our conversation soon ended. Don't you just love working with people. Some people get it and some don't.

    Got one for you

Have been doing a plumbing renovation for a customer they have been open for rough for over two years.

They bought and installed themselves two Space Pack units with added hydro air coils. They've doubled the size of the house; after having Keyspan install a 90MBH boiler the house load is now at least 130MBH. They want both air handlers installled on the existing boiler, each coil is the older style and the only rating Spacepack will give me is 70MBH @ 200F. They also state the units are for secondary heat and not meant to heat the whole house. The customer stated they used a program on the Spacepack website for their 1st calculations and the Slant Fin baseboard calculator for a back-up number; they also stated that they used 10 to 60F for their parameters since they like the house cold. And cold it shall be.

I gave them several options for the second boiler and they have taken me up on none.

Guess it will be two more years untill the heat is done.

    Some get it Some don't

Working for an oil company we do for our regular customers first, if it is slow we may pick and choose for a non customer. A regular customer had a bad Entran II system. He got the onyx from us but followed the Entran layout and replaced it. (labor only) We tied in the onyx and installed an air handler in the attic for the up stairs. He didn't push his limits and was very gracious to work for.
Another buy it your selfer non customer wanted it installed and the boss said no thank you.
