Rector Seal Golden Pipe Shredder -- Anyone use it ??
Rookie

I bought the one that is advertised in Plumbing & Mechanical Mag, it works great the amount of time you save pays for the tool the first time you use it. Just buy it, it's a good tool.

I am thinking of buying these but
I have never seen it used or tryed it. They come in a kit with 1 1/2", 2", 3", and 4". They are abit pricey compared to what we use now, but they may be better than what we use now.
Anyone try it and have an opinion on how they work ??
If you don't know, they allow you to drill out PVC pipe from a fitting thats allready glued.
Thanks Guys

PVC Pipe 'Shredder'
Hey - I never really thought boring out PVC fittings was a legitimate possibility - what do you consider makes the RectorSeal tools too pricey - and what is your alternative process? Are you (and the inspectors) confident with the remade joint? Enquiring minds want to know!
http://www.rectorseal.com/gldngrp.htm shows the kit but doesn't mention a price.
Thanks

havent tried them yet
Saw them the other day and yes they are pricey. I own a set of different ones but they always seem to fall apart especially the three and four inch one.
I might have to spend the loot and try the rectorseal ones!0 -
haven't used that particular model
we use the pasco drill. Been using them for years and they work real well. Just make sure you use LOTS of glue when you redo the joint. We usually cut the fitting out if we can, but sometimes you just can't do that realistically.0 -
Rector Seal pipe shreader
We just picked one up last week and it works good but not as tight as a factory fitting. The shreader is definatly a step up from a Pasco. They will not fit in a Hilti half inch drill, maybe because it's a metric drill all in all it is a nice option and time saver.

drilling out is most certainly a option. Usually and better alternative than sawing out, then prying the loose chips out.
I base the price on the current products that are on the market. They do the job and I do agree that copious amounts of glue are needed . This product LOOKS like a nice tool, but many things LOOK good. I'd liked to see it it work, or better still, purchase just one and decide for myself whether it works well or not. By allowing only an investment in the whole kit it makes it difficult for the product to get out to the trades. JMHO.
