vents on steam condensate line

Ahh, so the steam extends thru and past the radiators to a common vent? How would you balance that bad boy?

    #75 Vent on condensate return

I increased the number of vents my main steam return from 2 #75 hoffman to 4. I currently have 1 #75 hoffman on the condenste return. Would it help increasing the venting on the condensate side?

    Tough to say

without knowing more about the system. Do you have this?

I don't have this book I will look into getting it. The main loop I believe is 3" and about 75 ft. It had 1 #75 on it on the main return and another on the condensate return. Last year I posted a question about main vents. Steamhead recommended either a Gorton #2 or 4 #75's. I made a manifold of 4 #75's. It works well. Steamhead had also mentioned that if you can hear the vents then you do not have enough venting capacity. Is this true on the condensate return?

A question. What are you venting on a condensate line? The vents are to let air out so the steam can get in. The condensate runs like a drain pipe and will drain reguardless of pressure vacume or whatever, as long as it pitches down hill toward the boiler. Why the vent?
  • Brian, that's

a 2-pipe system with traps on the radiators, correct? How much radiation do you have?
  • For 700 square feet EDR

in a 2-pipe system with no vents on the rads, start with two Gorton #2 vents on the dry return.
