I do not live in the US but my mother was born there. Times have changed,especially for you Americans. Once you were the product makers,now you import twice as much as you export. The main reason for most of this is profit for the big companies. If they can get away with low labour costs they'll set up shop in that country. We as consumers never see their savings,by lower their product at stores. They just line their pockets with it.

Our daughter Meghan

has been living in a tiny village in Costa Rica for the past year. She teaches English to 40 children who will not go beyond the sixth grade, because hardly anyone there does.

Meg has been dating a nice guy for the past six months. He has been unable to find work, although he is a very talented artist. He just competed for a job at Hanes, the underwear company. Four hundred people applied for this job and seven were accepted. Albert is very excited that he was one of the seven people chosen. He will work five days a week, from 7 AM until 5 PM. He'll leave his home at 5 AM to get to work on time, and he'll get home at 7 PM. Half-hour for lunch and no other breaks throughout the day.

His weekly pay will be $60.

Our entire country is living on borrowed time (and money). We cannot buy anything if we do not produce anything. I wonder when and how the party will end.

not just jobs

Jobs are leaving and so are companies that are relocating out of the country to avoid the taxes . Costa Rica for instance is attracting lots of Americans , but not young folks like Dan's daughter . lots of american retired people are moving down much better taxes down there you know and decent health care from what i've read . Hey Dan , Meghan find you a nice little villa yet ? I'd ask her to look for one for me but I've got a few decades to go . Had my eye on Belize anyhow .

Dan, God bless your daughter and family for looking out for other people. I hope that Meghan finds her time in Costa Rica to be rewarding and thanks to the lovely Maryanne for her dedication to your bundle of joy who awaits her school bus daily with baited breath. You guys are examples of what made our country what it is. I'm just disapointed at the way the future looks. Thank you for doing your part.
