most of
the current TRV's have operators filled with a gas or liquid that expand or contract with temperature rise or fall. If there is a leak in the container, the valve would go to full open on most of them (I think oventrop has a fail close valve available). If your TRV is maintianing a temperature, but not the temperature it should, check to see if something is influencing it, light bulb, computer fan, furniture,return line, etc. If it's overheating, your operator has probably failed and needs to be replaced, if it's underheating, check to see if the valve is stuck or line is clogged.
