Glenn,

I have a question on clearance for Z-vent installed on a Burnham Boiler. The Boiler (Spirit) installation manual allows several different venting manufactures (of which Z-vent is one) and states:

Vent pipe minimum clearance to combustible
material is five (5) inches when vent is installed in a
fully enclosed (chase) application or four (4) inches
when vent is installed with at least one side open,
similar to a joist bay application.

The installation manual for Z-vent states:

System Operating Temperature 480F (249C)

Clearance Enclosed

Horizontal 8"
Vertical 4"

Clearance Unenclosed

Horizontal 1"
Vertical 1"

Does the Boiler Installation Manual take precedence over the Z-vent Installation Manual or vice versa?

Just looking for your opinion on this before I go to the AHJ.

Thanks,

The boiler installation manual takes precedence and as always, your local and state code overrules that!

    Thanks Glenn

Will check with them to make sure. It is less than the 6" from the older manual so that helps.
