I got Heat!!!

Well I want to thank all the fine people who helped me with my oil feed problem. The Riello just does not have the guts. I gave up at 2:00 last night trying to prime the tiger loop and also took apart the vertical run and pumped oil in with a small oiler. Nothing worked. This morning I hooked up my shop vac with small attachments with an air tight seal - NOTHING. The shop vac could not suck oil to the boiler location. I took the advice of some smart people and bought a push/pull pump for $79.00 this afternoon. I had oil at 4 strokes - put it together and the boiler was running in a flash. I have NO oil leaks, the system is running fine and all is well. Only one small concern: The aquastat is set to 175, but the temp gauge hits 185 before it drops out. Problem with the aquastat?? Thanks again to everyone - I could'nt have done it without you!!!

The shop-vac
should have been used to push the oil instead of trying to pull it! Vacuum is out at 29.9999 in of Hg, but pressure is infinite. Better luck next time and try priming the pump with Mobil One, it's synthetic qualities are virtual.0 -
Sorry, just realized
you may not be kidding!0 -
Just remember....
do Not run the bugger outta oil or your gonna have to do it all over again... :-)
Floyd
BTW.... did you try to run it out of a five gallon can????0 -
That's OK I got the pump for next time. No on the bucket, I was too tired at 2:00 in the morning and just went to bed (extra blanket).0 -
Good One, George
Always good for a laugh.0 -
Gene, I'm still
not sure if he's kidding or not???? A shop-vac?
Left a note below for you too!0 -
Combustion test
Tom, haven't heard anything about combustion test, a new wet kit will cost you around $500 or so. If not done get someone in Pronto Pronto before you have to invest in new Mastercraft vacuum (shopvac not recommended for soot). Glad its up and running, will be happier knowing it's setup and operating properly.0 -
I did'nt think a shop vac was powerful enough either as the thought entered my mind, then I got this reply from the guy in Alaska, so I said "what the hec I'll try anything at this point" (perhaps it was just a joke, but I thought he was serious):

Subject: priming pump
I have never been able to get a tiger loop to prime itself without opening the bleed plug on the pump. Bleed it like you would without the tigerloop and it should be fine after that. I did have one run going to a riello that was 75 feet away and about 6 feet below the burner. I put a piece of vinyl tubing on the end of the fuel line just past the fuse valve and used a shop vac to pull vacuum on the line. When I saw the fuel start to come into the vinyl tube, I closed the fuse valve and reconnected the fuel line to the pump. I then bled the fuel pump throught the bleeder plug and fired it off. Been working fine for about 3 years now. Hope this works for you . Rick in Alaska
