Inexpensive Flow Meter

Strictly speaking, these aren't flow meters. They are water meters. Flow meters measure the flow rate. Water meters tally how much water has passed through.

Inline flow meters would be useful in hot water systems, so you can check what you think the flow is based on head calculations and pump curve and etc.. Delta-T measurements aren't as accurate or as quick as flow meter readings. But that's a different type of meter.

    Anyone try these???

I want to install an inexpensive flow meter on my boiler feed line (it's 1/2 copper)... anyone try these?

would you share why you want to meter the water going into your heating system? Is this a closed or open heating system?

    Water into boiler...

I want to meter the water that enters the boiler from the domestic water line, not the water moving through the steam side. Want to keep a log of water usage, hopefully pick up on venting issues or when to start thinking about cleaning the boiler.

So for not being very specific in the first post.

    Thanks

Knowing nothing further than what you've said...

... and what info I've read online (thanks for the link!), I say: "go for it".

I don't think you have anything to lose but a bunch of time getting that meter installed. It's a great idea to flag where and when the boiler starts to behave erratically (above water line crack or leak, for example).

I haven't tried one, but if you do, please post again with a report on how well it performs.

I've thought of installing an inexpensive flow meter on the inlet to my indirect heater to help me figure out how much of my heating load comes from heating hot water.

    water meters

If I'm understanding you correctly you are trying to monitor your make up water. Check out Hydrolevel's VXT water feeder, it has a digital meter built right into it.
