Near steam boiler piping questions

We are replacing a 30HP horizontal tube boiler with a cast iron boiler. Due to physical size of the new boiler, the 4" take off for the steam supply (not the water line)from the header will be higher than the existing steam main. Am I better "dripping" the connection with a trap (F&T or bucket)or just drop a line to the existing wet return? What size trap or line? Question #2 Will the "high level overflow" (a F&T trap a few inches above normal water line level on the equalizr)connected to the new feed water tank as suggested by HB SMITH in their manual replace Dan's "False water line" bottle?

Will a drop header help you out? Go to Dan's Library and look up Steam piping. You'll see some beautiful examples.

    Thanks

Been doing this for 30 years, been to Dan's seminars (I remember "Dangerous Dan and the hole in the ground")and read his books but missed this simple and elegant solution to the problem. It is good to learn something new every day.

    drop header

good call Anthony. i was thinking the same but took for granted Sam was familiar with the drop header . actually did not want to insult him. did not start using them myself until about three years ago . use them on every job now and they are beautiful. connections go in like butter.
