    2nd Floor Not Heating

    Hello!

After a long hot summer, the NY Tri-State area has seen these huge drops. I guess that was too much of a drop for our antiquated heating system.

The problem is -- the 2nd floor radiators won't heat. The pipes are cold and when I tried to bleed them, I got a second or two of very weak air coming out and then it just fizzled -- no water! So I'm thinking there may be too little water in the circuit. But I'm not sure. Before bleeding the radiators, I made sure the boiler was working. But still nothing. Every time I do that, I get a couple of seconds of air wheezing out, but no water. I guess that's the reason there's no heat in those rooms.

We have a hot-water system with an oil-fired boiler installed in the 50's (when the house was built). The first floor has baseboard heating for most part, which is working fine. The kitchen (on the first floor) is the only room that has radiators. And those don't seem to be working either. There is one room on the second floor that seems to heat up. So it's all a little confusing for me.

    What could be the problem?

Thanks for your response in advance,
    Pat

Is the second floor your top floor?

Where are you located. If you are in Westchester County, I can help you.

    2nd Floor Heating

    Al

The 2nd floor is the top floor. I think I figured out the problem -- there wasn't enough water in the loop. I let in some water and the thing started working!

It was quite a relief since it's around 40 F where we are located (northern Fairfield co, CT).

    Thanks for your response.
