Testing,Testing 1,2,3,4,5,6... (ME)

Good to see you. I just ordered the 4 HOBO data loggers and sensors needed to retreive the data ($1,000.00 worth...)

As soon as I get that and get it installed, all we need then is snow...

We commision the systems Monday of next week, and after that it'll probablly be one of the driest, warmest winters on record:-)

Hang loose, it will only take one good storm to get a billion points of data that can be graphed and interpreted.

  • Can you see me now???

As promised, heres the exposed view of the insulation testing we'll be providing the information on.

Thanks to Matt Carr of Dahl Denver who retreived 3 of the 6 samples and all of the manufacturers and Dennis Bellanti (Thanks Greg Birney) who donated their materials to the test.

Each sample is 4' X 4', and each sample will have a temperature sensor above and below the center of the sample. One in the slab, and one in the dirt, as well as one monitoring the supply fluid temperature to the grid.

Samples are scheduled to be covered with cement this coming Tuesday (provided the cement shows up..).

Anyone else experiencing shortages of concrete???

I've included additional pictures of the tube laying process for your entertainment.

I'm sure some of you will question me in regards to the manner in which we're applying the tube to the long running driveway. There's a manifold at the beginning of the run, and one at the end of the run. It's approximatly 250 feet between manifold boxes. No down/backs on the long runs. There will be a 4 way valve with a time delay relay on it that will reverse the direction of flow about every 10 minutes to chase the snow away.

One mechanical room with two m399 Munchkin condensors is done, and the other with one m399 is under construction.

We fill and fire next Thursday. 110 gallons of glycol are necessary to bring it up to a 40% solution.

More photos to follow next week.

    Enjoy!

I just want to express my thanks to you

... for undertaking this test. This is the kind of data that is hard to come by, yet which is so important for all the contractors out there to present credible solutions to their clients. Thank you, very, very much and I look forward to the test results. In the meantime, all the best.

    its gonna be Good *~/:)

looks like a slippery drive without snow melt. so you manage to find a solution to one problem and come up with some answers to even more All on one job :) How GOOD is that :) now if they get that poured right quick you can fire up the data logger ....and snow will be there real soon. :) Trust me:) the illusion called summer is Over :)
  • Thanks guys...

I do it for the good of the industry.

  • Testing .......

I sure hope you aint ripping up that driveway once the testing is done ....

Thanks Mark for all you do .
  • Me too...

I'm taking the attitude that most of my "competition" doesn't use any insulation at all... A little insulation is a lot better than no insulation at all.

Hopefully I will not have to test it in court:-(

    next time

    Mark,

Next time you want to do sometihng like this, I can cook up something that can collect your data for a lot cheaper than that. I have a couple single board computers that can drive a 1-wire network, have an ethernet connection and can put the results up on a web page. With several MB of flash storage available, you can store alot of samples.

    Give me a shout.
