flue damper

Hello Carol,

We are having a Weil McLain LGB 10 retrofitted to a 2 pipe vapor (Mouat) system. I asked our boilerman if we could add dampers to the flue(s). He was concerned about condensation damaging the chimney mortar and was reluctant to explore the concept further. The chimney, which used to accommodate an old coal boiler, is 45 –50 feet tall so I’d prefer to avoid any unnecessary deterioration. I’ve heard similar concerns elsewhere and searched the internet but found no information to give a definitive yes or no.

The boiler outlet is 16” & will enter two 12” chimney receptacles.

Is it possible to install Honeywell dampers? And if so, would they be the Honeywell D896A1319 model?

Do you have any information to help me understand what can cause deterioration & how to avoid it?

Thanking you in advance, I am

Sincerely,
Vicki P. Lee
