Basement Radiator / One Pipe Steam System
I am building a room/office in our basement and would like to tap into the existing one pipe radiator system to heat the room. Im thinking of installing a radiator 12"-18 above the water line so I can control it with a thermostatic air vent. Has anyone done this with success. Im a little worried about tapping into the vertical part of the return into the boiler? All comments welcome. Thanks0 -

At 12"-18" above the water line, you will have trouble getting the condensate back to the boiler (not enough "A" dimension. You could install a trap on the radiator and install a small condensate pump, but how about installing a small FHW loop of the boiler. It would probably cost less to do and could be run as a separate zone.
