Those expensive Tarm tanks are lined with EPDM and use copper coils as Fred talks about above where the individual uses a concrete box.Insulate and away you go. Paul

Solar Storage Tank - how to build?
I need to build a 400-500 gal. tank in place in a basement. I've got the coils, but interested in construction details/experiences/suggestions. Framed w/ epdm? Stock tanks? A lid? How support the coils at different heights? I've only installed the listed SS expensive tanks, but can't use one here. Thanks.

I have a client
who built a concrete tank under his house to sink the solar heat into. It was lined of course (EPDM is good)and he supported self rolled coils of copper with mechanical supports in the water in the tank.0 -
I built mine
by framing it and installing a 1 piece epdm liner, no seams! I think for my next one I going to try to get the framing lined with fiberglass so it looks more professional. The bigest mistake I made with mine is I built it up against the foundation with ONLY 3 1/2" foam insulation. A lot of heat transfers through the foundation. Bob
