recently had new boiler installed ran for a month and then flooded basement 8 inches,After cleanup and determined ball on feeder had developed hole in it .replaced ball and everything ok. carlin burner 301 on weil mclain .I had a thick buildup mon retention head.I am guessing installers pumbed and wired unit without any testing.Iam going to a combustion test on unit What should I look For to cause the coke build up .

Rick, you would do yourself a diservice ....
find someone who does the boiler work complete service companies usually have a tech to do the combustion testing as there are too many variables to wake up Sunday morning with a noble idea and a new test kit and take off Testing the burner.

My guess with a 301 is that you may have a pressure fired boiler that needs to be setup. Additionally, the 301 like the rest of the Carlin commercial units is an adjustable head unit, requiring like all other equipment, test equipment. Find someone familiar with these units, not difficult just need to know what you are doing.0 -
