    Thermostat location

I own a split residence meaning that the 1st. floor leads up a staircase to the 2nd. floor which is about 5 feet above the 1st. floor. I have a single zone hot water base boards along with a single zone central A/C system. I plan on using one thermostat to control both. Where is the best/
most efficient location to place the thermostat ? The return for the A/C is located at the top of the stairwell. Please any suggestion's.
    Thanks,

    Why not

use a Visionpro stat with more than one sensor so you can average the readings AND locate the thermostat where you want it.

    location

I would put it up stairs in the hottest and coldest area of the home. Its easyer to cut down on the other parts of the structure. Now with ac its best to locate thermostat under the return grill. The returning air would be averaged house temperature. And with heat in the coldest room rather then the hall way. With no radiaton and if all the other room doors are shut it would over heat house..

There is no good way to answer the question, you have to see what works. If you have an even temperature throughout the house whether heating or cooling, then (obviously) any thermostat location is the same as any other. If you have uneven temperatures, then where you put the thermostat will have no effect on this problem, you'll still have uneven temperatures.
