Convector air vents?

What is the difference between a convector vent and a main vent? A so-called plumber installed a hoffman 45 vent at the end of my main line. My research tells me that this is a convector vent. I don't know what this is. Am I losing out on fuel costs. It has been recomended to me that I install a Gorton 2 vent instead. What improvements can I expect? Main vent is 50 feet long and 3" diameter. System serves 19 rads.

It will make a huge difference
that #45 has about the same venting capacity as the Hoffman #40 radiator vent, which is to say it vents slowly. The Gorton #2 is a monster main vent that will clear the air from that main in a super hurry!
