Hot Water System Problems

I have a Gas Hot Water Loop Baseboard System. I have 2 problems. There are 2 zones with 2 thermostats. One on the first fllor and one on the second floor. The first floor won't shut off. It has been working fine until now. We set the thermostat at 70 degrees and the system will continue to run. I will turn the thermostat down to 60 degrees and the system won't shut off. What can I do? Is it the thermostat? It gets hot. The only way I can cool down is by shutting the system off. My problem on the second floor is that there is no heat at all. I turn the thermostat to 80 degrees and the system won't go on. Any help is appreciated.

Do you have a controller with two pumps, or two seperate zone valves and one pump controling the system?Just a guy running some pipes.0 -

kenny, it sounds like a simple wiring problem. what brand are the zv. you may have crossed tstat wires. checkt o see if the 2nd floor tstat controls 1st floor zv.0 -
The second floor will not control anything--The system will not go on. Maybe the zone valve is shot. I am going to take the thermostat off and touch the wires to see if it is the thermostat. I believe the zone valves are Honeywell0 -
thats a good idea. if it still doesnt come on it could be the zv, or wrong wiring. has this problem just started?0 -
Air is not bleeding from some radiators
I have a 3-story house. On the 3rd floor, two radiators are filled partly with air but the air does not bleed out fully, leaving the radiator to heat only partly. What would be wrong with this system that I cannot bleed these two radiators fully?0 -
You should start a new thread...not hijack this one...but you probably show pressure on the gauge due to the volume of water in the system, and not actual system pressure. Bump up the pressure on the boiler to around 15 or so, then the system pressure will force out the air. You may need to go up to 20, then let water out after you bleed. 15 is about right...cold.

I took both Thermostates off and crossed the wire. I tried downstairs first--The system still runs with the wires apart. Upstairs the system will not do anything either way--The zone valves are Honeywell.0 -
I played with the zone valves--The downstairs zone valve the arm on the bottom just slides back and forth--no pressure--I tapped the valve and it slid into place and now works fine. This valve is installed horizantal not vertical--Is it ok? The upstairs zone valve arm has pressure when i push it to the right. I locked it into the open position and the pipe above the valve gets hot but the radatiors upstairs do not get heat--Any advise??0
