Ed, no offense, but I'd consider a serious repipe and proper control strategy to tame your beast.
You'll want to read John Siegenthaler's article in the Oct. '05 PM Mag that discusses this type of approach...and the ultimate cost for running such a system over time.

I'd be using a variable speed approach or using a single pump with slow-acting zone valves and a pressure bypass differential to protect the pump. Primary/secondary works well when combined with sensible pumping strategies.
