Combustion Analyzer

I should have also said that the readings were taken with my indirect water heater calling for heat, thats the reason for the high temps (I turned up the aquastat to keep the unit running) I use the WM Ultra monitor program & often check up on the temps both in & out. I use the Ultra 105 to power a Viesmann 50 gal indirect, 3 rooms of infloor radiant tubing, and two AH with water coils. I use a Tekmar panel to run the injection and keep tabs on every thing. The WM reset is also on but strangely enough there doesn't seem to be much of problem with two panels running outdoor reset interferring with each other

    Combustion Analyzer

I just replaced the O2 & CO cell in my Testo 325-1, I calibrated it, but I am suspect with some of the readings. I just tested my WM Ultra 105. On high fire I got the following readings.
    Gross stack temp 162*
    Net stack temp 91*
    O2 4.1%
    Efficiency 88.5%
    CO 52ppm
    CO undiluted 464 ppm
    excess air 24.6%

Do these seem right? I'm new to electronic analyzers. I had been using a Bacharach dumbell, but it broke and rather than fix it (too expensive) I bought this on Ebay and replaced the sensors.
    Thanks

  • CO is too high

and that may also be killing your efficiency. If you have trouble getting it down, you might call the W-M factory to see if they've run into this.

    I have a feeling...

your meter is fine and that Ultra needs a little fine tuning. Your gross stack temp is high for a condensing boiler, your O2 is low, and your CO is high. Break out the book, check the venting sizes, and then figure out how to fine tune that Ultra. It appears to be running a little lean on air, or rich on gas.

    Combustion readings

Your readings are excellant except for the undiluted CO. CO at 52ppm with an O2 of 4.1% would only be 60-70ppm not 464ppm. Something is wrong with the calculation. You do not mention the return water temperature but the flue temperature should be equal to or greater than(+20 degrees) this temperature. If it is not the last part of the heat exchanger isn't doing much!

    New readings for Jim Davis

I just rechecked my Ultra 105 with it calling for space heat 130* output, 118* return water temp. HAve the folling readings
    Stack - 111.4 *
    O2 - 4.7%
    Efficiency 89.5%
    CO - 14 ppm
    CO undiluted- 19ppm
    Excess air 29.6%

Seems be running fine- utility costs are about 15% less than the HydroTherm Pulse 100 that the Ultra replaced, BUT why is the efficiency only 89.5 % especially while making low temp supply water (return water temp 118*)

there is nothing wrong with your efficiency reading...

    that is Combustion efficiency...only

it does not reflect the condensing of the boiler, the AFUE figure, etc

    those readings look good

    That's correct

You would have to measure the amount of condensate generated per hour and add that to the meters calculation. The only two appliances that I have ever seen generate over 90% raw combustion efficiency are my own Vitola and about every Vitodens I have ever tested. All of these reading were with water temps less than 125*.
