Is there a better way i can bleed a hot water system than at the 1/8 tees on the baseboard.I have to put a cup under the tees because of room limitation and this takes "forever". Any suggestions, thanks.

    Purging valves

There is a better way but you need a pro to install a drain and a shut-off valve in the return at the boiler. Or you could have him re-pipe the circulator so it pumps away from the expansion tank and then you won't get the airbound condition to begin with.

There was an error rendering this rich post.

    Johm is right.

Some system changes could most likely eliminate you ever having to bleed the baseboard coin vents. In fact we NEVER install them in systems we install.

    one easy suggestion

they do make auto-vents that will fit into baseboard cover. That would be a quick easy fix, but I too set up everything for force-bleeding and do not install baseboard tees for bleeders either.
  • auto vents

The auto vents installed on a third floor basebard loop will suck air into the sustem because the atmospheric pressure will most likely be higher than the pressure inside the baseboard at that elevation. No?

Not if you set the system pressure properly

If not you may be in for some fun.
  • Mebbe yes, Mebbe no...

depends on wether a highhead pump has been properly misapplied. If yes, then auto vents become auto vacuum breakers and the air problems get worse.

As with any hydronic heating questions, the only correct answer is "It depends..."
