Usually called 'kettling' here, caused by scale &/or rust deposits causing localize overheating and boiling. This data sheet has the whole story.

Your water treatment specilaist should have something to shift the deposits.

    Forced hot water Boiling sound

I have a customer with a Forced Hot Water Burnham P207 making a boiling sound. Boiler is about 20 years old. It is running at about 30 psi, we are going to change out the auto feed, pressure relief and extroll tank, but I know that will not stop the boiling sound. Also if they use any hot water of the supper store 60 they get little to no heat out of there other 8 base board zones. They are also about 100,000 over the capacity of the boiler in attached load. This problem is getting worse. We plan on putting a bigger boiler in spring time. Could the existing boiler be plugging. How can it be cleared.

Temp is fine at 180, we drained some water to lower the pressure back to 21 psi. Boiler still sounds like a percolator.

    Oxidation

Is there some way for a lot of makeup water to have been needed? Try turning off the automatic feed and see what happens after a few days.
