I agree w/james about cleaning the pilot tube. I've found that this is usually a spider problem. Remove the burner package completly like your doing annual maintenance. Remove the orfice from the pilot tube and I like using pipe cleaners[like for tobacco pipes] twist several together[3] usually does it. be careful not to lose one in tube or you'll be ordering a new one. push it thru the tube around the curve a couple of times..this should solve your problem. I perform c&c's and repairs on a lot of these and this works great. good luck Freon

york gas rooftop problem

anyone have this problem with york gas rooftops. all yorks I've seen use an intermittant electronic control module that lights a pilot tube. there's an igniter sparker on one end of the pilot tube and a senser on the other end. on a call for heat, the pilot tube won't stay lit all the way across lighting off the main burners for only a couple of seconds then shutting down and going back into retry. when I partially cover the hole where the induced draft motor blows the air out the pilot tubes light alll the way across and the main burners come on; everything works properly. is this a bad heat exchanger problem. I've seen this happen on a number of york units

Remove and thoroughly clean that "pilot" tube. Sounds like you have inadequate gas flow through that. The orifice that the tube sets over gets clogged as do the puncked holes in the tube itself. This is a common problem and should be addressed every time maintenance is done on one of those systems. By the way, the pilot tube lights all of the way accross when the exhaust is blocked because you reduce the combustion air. This allows the minimal gas flowing to spread accross without the combustion air disturbing it.
