Primary/Secondary Pumping on W-M Ultra's

Has anyone set up an Ultra with the injection pump coming off the boiler set up on 6-12"OC mains? This is the set up I normally use with the EK boilers but W-M shows the set up opposite of what I normally install.

    Why would you need injection

pumping on a condensing boiler? Is this a multiple temperature system?

I've installed about 6 Ultras and have used the Caleffi Hydrolink on all but two. This simplifies the piping and gives you the tees for the various loads.

  • I need the injection for radiant

We will be replacing an older boiler with 2 W-M's. They will both be handling conventional radiators and radiant flooring. I have located the new Taco XPB all-in-one and I think I will spec these for the job I have coming up. Thanks for the input again!

    I've piped 'em

like this. Is this more like you are use to? My favorite feature with the Ultra is the ability to use the various S&R connections.

If you do use the bottom connections, use a hole saw, as those knockouts really don't work at all.

Ignore the red and blue lines out of the boiler, they are reversed to the Ultra's supply on the right. Add a bleeder or air vent to the unused top connection to keep the steel pipe "wet" and eliminate trapped air and corrosion.

  • Some pics on how we pipe 'em off an EK

This is the way we are doing it off an EK on another job. hot rod pretty much ansered the question(thanks)about the W-M that will be going in on this one. BTW this is the job we needed the 4-1/2 inch cap for. The plumbers demo "team" got a little overzealous and tore out too far.
