Need a Quiet Closet Boiler

Tony_23 Member Posts: 1,033
Endurance is quiet, but Weil-mclain Ultra and Baxi are both much quieter.

Baxi is more compact and has both non-condensing and condensing.

They all modulate.

I like the looks of the GB142 but have not installed any, nor have I any experience with Viessmann.

    Who makes

Quietiest Direct Vent boiler to be installed in a closet. The closet is located in the living room so I need it to be silent. Am I asking for too much? I have heard of the Larrs Endurance unit which is suppossed to be pretty quiet but not sure of its reliabilty.

My brother has a Burnham in his house for 10 years and the unit never once broken down. I have been told that I need a sealed combustion unit.

Any ideas or recommendation would be appreciated.

Circulators make more noise than a Vitodens running.
    I've seen and heard it.

    Quiet boiler

The MZ has been on the market for over 15 years and is a proven, high eff, very quiet boiler. See www.mzboiler.com

Just filled and started my system. Has both a Vitodens and and the old W/M cast iron with B&G 100 (isolate one from the other, just use the W/M for backup and the B&G 100 for initial air purging).

And yes, the B&G 100 is louder than the Vitodens. Stand-alone DHW heater fired while I was working. It's significantly louder than the Vitodens. Circulator built into the two smaller Vitodens models can only be described as eerily silent and smooth.

    I'll second that

I've got one and it's quiet as can be. A miser with the gas and not one computerized-electronic-digital-fragile-tempermental mystery part on the whole darn thing ;-) Just a good, well thought out simple, solid little boiler. And no I don't work there...

If you are looking for a silent boiler

Everybody here is selling you a bill of goods.

There is no such thing as a silent boiler. The exhaust fan, pump(s), ignitition and combustion process--they all cause noise. In fact, even when the boiler is not running the vent pipes (at least on my boiler) can slightly amplify noise from outside the house to the inside. That's why they are put in basements and utility rooms not, say, bedrooms and dining rooms.

Bottomline, I guarantee any boiler you buy is going to be louder than the computer you used to post your message to this forum.

Full disclosure: I own a Monitor MZ, and while it is less noisy than the Weil-McLain I had, it makes noticeable noise.

Buderus GB142 all the way!!!!! It is the quietest boiler I've ever seen!! It is a proven european design and includes the Primary loop manifold. All the other condensing boiler manufacturers state in their manuals to pipe primary/2ndary. Buderus gives you the primary loop!! They also give you a room sensor. The wiring is easy too!! It's also 30% less expensive then the Vitoden$, which doesn't come with the sensor or manifolds!!!!!!!!!!!! Munchkin doesn't either!!

I would also go with the GB-142.

Just installed 1st. Buderus GA124/17 today. Hard to believe that there's an exhaust fan running. Love that they give you clear manual booklet holder with magnet holder on side jacket.

Not true about ALL other manufacturers require protection piping

Dunkirk's condensing boiler (Quantum Series) do not require protection piping at all. No P/S no bypass...because the colder the water, the more it condenses. Makes sense to me

Quiet, and simple to install..warranty as good as anyones IMO.

low mass condensing boilers need to be pumped p/s to ensure flow through the heat exchanger. If you don't have flow, you'll flash that 1/4 gallon of water to steam in a minute and lose the heat exchanger. You are correct in saying that they don't need protection from cool return water, and that the cooler the return water the more it condenses, but 198,000 btu's vs. less then a gallon of water with poor flow ain't a nice thing!

    W-M Ultra Gas

Take a look at the Ultra Gas before you make your finally decision. Good luck.

    yes

but the dunkirk is 2.5 gallons, and less that 1/2 psi pressure drop.

    Did somebody say silent?

I think they're saying that the circulators make more noise than the boiler. Add up the noise of them both, and I'll bet it's still quieter than an oscillating desk fan. I definitely think my computer makes more (or comparable)noise than the Peerless Pinnacle (munchkin clone).
Put it in a closet, and you'd have to be mighty hard to please to complain about the noise I believe. Kevin
