but newer ones are much less forgiving. Get rid of the bullhead.

Bullheaded tee, how bad?
I'm replacing a steam boiler and wondering whether to go to the trouble of eliminating a bullheaded tee.
The old boiler has two 3" outlets to a 3" offset header, and one 2-1/2" takeoff that goes up about 25", then turns horizonal another 25" before hitting the tee, sending the steam into the two mains. It all seems to work fine -- steady water level, no banging, etc. (The boiler's being replaced because of a crack).
The new boiler has one 3" outlet. It'd be easiest to just take the old 2-1/2" riser off a new 3" header, but I realize the kosher way would be two take-offs, one for each main. Since the tee is so far from the header and the old boiler doesn't surge, how important is the extra work to elimiate the tee?0
