I have to deal with a sump pump that is in a 20 gallon metal trash can the pump handles hot water from 2 steam boilers when the low water cut offs are flushed the trash barrel last about 2 yrs and yes it is galvinized any one have a better idea for a containment vessel?

Pour a concrete sump
you can use the trash can as a form. If there's any chance a rain storm could produce hydraulic pressure under the floor, the sump should have a gravel bottom rather than concrete.0
