new install

A new steam (gas) boiler has taken up residence in my house.
The previous boiler:
-was oversized (800sq ft. versus the 538 sq ft. that actually exists)
-surged and spit regularly due to poor near boiler piping
-water hammered continuosly due to a wrongly pitched pipe
The new Weil McLain PEG 55 boiler(with proper near boiler piping) has corrected all of the above problems and now supports a fhw loop for two kitchen kickplate heaters rather than incorrectly tying the loop in to my domestic hot water heater as was done by a misguided plumber.
An Everhot side arm hot water heater protects the fhw loop from excessive heat and rust intrusion. A probe type lwco and auto feeder complete the package.
Steam heat really can be quiet and efficient which contradicts the comments pseudo pros I have dealt with in the past.
Ed Wallace of Wallace Heating and Cooling (one of your pros listed on this forum) did the install. Thank you Ed.
Pictures of the before and after are attached.

PS: Thank you Dan H. I read your books and became a more educated consumer as a result.

What a difference, Dan
Ed- That is one fine installation- I love the dropped header and appreciate the conditions you had to work in. Could not be neater.
Dan- you are to be commended for keeping steam and doing it right-
Trouble is, you will not get to enjoy it for a few months. I take it test firing is out of the question over these next few days?

A tip of the hat to you, Mr. Wallace!
... the heating system and it's owner must be so much happier now that the header and the boiler install is "right".
I love the drop header and the piping on top of the header to get everything connected. Between the clean permatex joints, the unions, etc. I think this system ought to last a long, long time.
What's also neat is how you fit the everhot under the hood, making for a neat, compact install. The use of Webstone flanges around circulators is another big plus. All the work is really, really nice.
Another tip of the hat goes to Dan for creating this site, educating consumers, and allowing them to find contractors that care as much as Ed does about quality, longevity, and economy. Lastly, a shout out to the other Dan for taking the time to educate himself, recognize a true heating professional when he sees one, and to insist on a quality install.
I'm amazed that the copper header of the past worked for any length of time. Isn't it funny how the piping it connected to should have been a clue re: the necessary pipe diameter instead of the one that the previous installer used?0 -

Lots of people here have got it all figured out. Bravo for steam.
