Indirect WH or not

In a propane fired boiler such as Munchkin, Trinity, Buderus, would it use less energy for DHW and heating(baseboard radiators)if it didn't use the indirect water heater?

Thanks

An Indirect with a condensing boiler is more efficient than a direct fired separate water heater

    AND...................

....an indirect will give you a much better rate of hot water production and delivery than a stand-alone water heater!!!!!

    And.....

to underscore the efficiency aspects, when you have two sources of combustion (one with a standing pilot and limited controls) you have a cumulation of inefficiencies. With an indirect you can use a timeclock, set up, set back and in general have, thermally speaking, a much tighter tank than one with a drafty hole up the middle of it.

And as Starch says, the production rate has no competition.

    Don't forget.....

Overall cost of operation,no need for another vent set up AND that you can buy lots of indirects with lifetime warranties.

    It's a no brainer...Indirect hands down ! Chris

Which is better of the 2. A trinity Ti150 with indirect or a Trinity Ti combo? The combo supplies all the hot water you need as a family without having to have 40 gallons of storage.

    Becareful with combo's

Treat them like tankless units. They have restricted flow and cannot supply concurrent showering/washing, etc. Many utilize a flat plate HX in the unit which could plug up over time. Nothing beats having a storage of pre-heated water IMO.
