Mad Dog ... Kentucky Derby ??

We were there in the Infield with 80,000 crazy partying people. I was young once. Somebody had a 8" B&W battery powered TV so we hunched over and watched the 8th race. Everything else was a Mint Julep party and you get to keep the glass!!!

The night before in Louisville downtown was better than the Race. The town is alive. We went to a club called the Soundstage, bands came on at 8-10-12-2-4-6 etc. We saw the sun come up and headed to Churchill Downs. Once again, I was young once. Now if I make past 9:30pm it's a miracle.

It's now my turn to be old...

    Ah The Derby

    Scott,
I was at the last Triple Crown Races in beautifull Louisville (pronounced Lou-ville bu locals) 1977 & 1978, saw Affirmed & Seattle Slew. Still have winning betting slips and admission ticket in a scrap book. We drank Mint Julips in the Infield. I loved the town so much that I moved there in 95-98.

I sing My Kentucky Home before the race every year as I watch on TV, the first Saturday in May. If you haven't been to a Derby, it's something you must witness. It was more exciting than any other sporting event I have witnessed... Mad Dog enjoy the Race

I had a wealthy customer who had a horse in the race years ago. I said " It must be really something to watch, I should go once just for the show ".

He said " Stay Home you see more on T.V. "

    :)

I'd still like to go someday.

    Two minutes of pure excitement

Some years the race is beyond the pale, other years it is just good. I always hope for a hair raising photo finish.

We have a local interest this year. The owner of Steppenwolf(sp) lives here. His horse came in second in the AR Derby. He is a come from the back finisher, which could work to his advantage in the Derby.

Any way, I will be watching on TV and enjoying the one day a year that horse racing is king in the US.

    Went in 1989

One of the coldest Derby's on record. I watched from outside in my flimsy suit while my girlfriend stood in the clubhouse and warmed up in her summer dress. I believe temps were in the high 40s and drizzling. But just to be there was still great. I didn't win a penny but it was fun anyway.

    Memories

I never have been to a horse race but had the privledge of designing the HVAC system fo a house for Mr. and Mrs. Firestone at Catoctin Stud Farm in Waterford, VA in the 1980's. This is the farm where Secretariat went to stud (poor thing they all said; done by machine, not what he had in mind I am sure...).

One site visit I was with the architect. She went to find Mrs. F. to discuss some colors and design issues. Goes down to the stable where told Mrs. F. would be. Not there she was informed. Out on the trails riding their own horse, Genuine Risk .... cannot make this stuff up.

    Believe it or not Scott.........................................

Have not had to time to even read the paper let alone the racing form over the last several years. IF and only IF I had time to study the bloodlines, I can usually pick the horse that will finish in the money. You guys don't know what you are missing.....a day a the races...espceially a major track is a real treat for the whole family. Pleas take advantage this year. Mad Dog
