A few photos of the Pabst Mansion in Milwaukee
The first two pictures are of a lavy with a very interesting looking trap. Can anyone identify it?
Thr third picture shows a couple of taps with little cup shaped plates above the handles. What are the cups for?

The trap is a \"flask\" type
which I believe was an anti-syphon design. Possibly the faucet handles are cup holders?

Nice pictures!
If they were yours "in the day", then you were living large!
Very nice.

catalog from 1901 justs lists the trap this way- ''Brass Trap, waste to floor, vent to wall'' they also show another variation listed as ''waste to wall, vent to wall''..your variation was $6 back in 1901..the supply tube bulges are air chambers..they were $8 each..the spigot is a ''Fuller Basin Cock'' listed at $90 dollars per dozen..guess you had to buy the box back then..it says ''fuller basin cock #6 with jewel cup''..not sure what a jewel cup is? earrings perhaps? the legs on the lav were listed at $13 each..that sink set up was a fortune back in the turn of the century..oh, just found a complete sink set up shown, just like yours, and in the list of parts the trap IS listed as a ''flask'' trap..Steamhead pegged that one..got this old catalog on e-bay..its been great in helping to identify things..that is one expensive set up..hope they appreciate what they have.

Gerry, I'll bet that PBP catalogue you have is full of interesting information. At the Pabst mansion gift shop they had a reproduction of a J L Mott catalogue of that vintage as well period wood moulding and decorative ironwork catalogues.0 -
i wonder what the
heating system in that place is like..it was probably top shelf stuff too..

trap
It is a flask trap with an intregal crown vent. These traps were attractive to the eye but very subject to evaporation and the entrance of sewer gases if not used a lot. They are the reason crown vents are illegal in most if not all plumbing codes today.

Pabst Mansion heating system
I was suprised when I was told the original system was a gravity furnace in the basement, which was (after the building was occupied by the local diocese of the Catholic Church) replaced by a boiler and cast iron radiators.0 -
