Anyone know the load in btu/hr of this indirect water heater? 180* supply and 5gpm flow.
Any and all specs would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

Its math!
Its math! What is the temperature of the incoming cold water? After that is just plain math. A gallon of water is 8.3 pounds weight. Now that times five then times sixty seconds times sixty minutes is the weight of the water in one hour. Since a BTU is one pound of water raised one degree F, how many degrees do you have to rise times the weight of the water already calculated. Walla that is the load max per hour. Each hour the five GPM is used. A shower at five GPM is one heck of a shower; you could drown in there! Just kidding a good shower is one half that rate!

Although your information is correct in one aspect, there is a bit more to it than that. With indirect heaters, the storage capacity of the tank is also taken into effect. Up until recently there have not necessarily been any standards on how indirect water heater recoveries were rated. Those standards are now being adopted by the indirect manufacturers and the ratings that they now publish are now a bit more realistic than their previous claims.
Also a 5 gpm shower head is neither unrealistic nor uncommon in the field. Depending on the manufacturer of that device and whether the flow restriction device has been removed, we encounter them quite often. A simple measure to monitor this flow is to clock the time it takes to fill a 5 gallon bucket. Although there are government mandated water conservation measures in place for toilets and urinals, there is nothing to state that a homeowner can't have multiple shower heads, hand sprays, body sprays and foot washes all operating at the same time and of course utilizing hot water to boot! We commonly refer to those as "the human carwashes"!
Best advice is to visit the Amtrol website or to call them regarding the boiler size required or how the tank will perform with the btuh capacity he has available depending on the temperature rise and tank size.
