Pex under deck

I have a line of Pex tubing running under a portion of my deck for a faucet. I am concerned about the UV issue.
Should I cover it with something?

Also, it runs through the sill plate of my house.
What is the best way to insulate the hole where the tubing
runs through?

Lastly, does Pex lose heat? I have a run of tubing running from the basement to the attic for a hydor air system. Attic is not heated. Should I worry about insulating the tubing?

    Insulate the PEX

I would think the PEX under the deck could also freeze so it should be insulated anyway. That takes care of your UV exposure issue.

Sure PEX looses heat! That's how radiant floors work!
Insulate all the attic exposed tubing. I would insulate any tubing in an outside wall also.

What is good for insulating around the PEX?

Will that spray foam insulation harm it if I spray it in the hole in the sill plate?

I have a shutoff valve on the inside of the basement
so the outside faucet is open to protect freezing.

  • You should drain the outside fauct line if possible for best results re: freeze protection.

Spray insulation should be fine, but check your specific foam product with your specific tubing manufacturer just to make sure you don't void any warranties. In writing (say, email or fax) is best.
