Can 1/2" and/or 3/8" black iron be threaded with a regular straight die to accept some standard size of nut? What size?
Am hanging open dinnerware storage (dowel work--no front or back) above a peninsula. Want to leave the space above open to admit light. Might not have enough adjustment room if I use regular tapered thread.0 -
non tapered dies
IF you use straight [non- tapered ] dies electrical lock nuts will match up0 -
Better make it
½" to support your cast iron dinnerware; that stuff is heavy.

Thanks Bob!0 -
My English stonewear is nearly as heavy as cast iron...
Estimate 600# (highball) for cabinet and contents with four points of support--only two are pipes--and built such that racking is nearly impossible. 14" of 3/8" black iron supporting 150# of purely vertical load shouldn't be a physical problem but it might look insubstantial.0 -
you are very welcome Mike. you could also use 5/8 " or 3/4 " solid rod and thread it0 -
Gotta love this Wall
Where else can you get the answers for a question like Mike Asked. Right here at the wall. Mike,.We'll see you for dinner:)0 -
Mike
Bob Young nailed it. Solid rod then thread it. You could even plate it when finished.
