Can you flip the cover off a V-1000 to have exhaust on top rather than bottom ? In my installation manual it shows exhaust on bottom but doesn't say that its a must. Any problems or concerns ?

I would rather
see the exhaust on the top. When the unit is in low fire with just a slight breeze, you may pull exhaust gas in with the fresh air. I recomend, always putting the exhaust above the fresh air intake, with any gas appliance.
I hope this helps,
